In a blanket vote on April 7, Falmouth's Town Meeting members approved a Community Preservation Fund grant of more than $450,000 to rehabilitate the exterior of the 112-year-old Village Junction. Part of a multi-year project sponsored by the NFVA to enhance the Junction's role as a community hub, the work will include wood restoration and preservation, window replacement and restoration, and improvements to make the building ADA accessible. A schedule for the renovations is now in development.

The Junction building, located at 212 Old Main Road, has been a gathering point for the NFVA's events and activities for nearly 50 years. Once connected to the local fire department and known as Hose House No. 9, it is a contributing structure on the National Register and is listed in the State's Cultural Resources Inventory. The project to renovate it began last year when State Rep. David Vieira secured the first of two $10,000 earmarks in the Massachusetts state budget to begin evaluation and planning. Those funds, which were augmented with $6,000 contributed by the NFVA, enabled the association to hire an architect to draw up plans to enhance not just the building's exterior, but also its interior and facilities. Ultimately, all the enhancements will not just preserve the historic building's legacy, but also pave the way for the Junction to offer more community programs and gatherings.
