Henry Gartner and Deborah Cotton were the male and female open winners in the 44th annual Paul White Memorial Road Race, which took place July 8. On that morning, 233 runners gathered for the 4.81-mile run, which begins and ends on Chester Street between the North Falmouth Library and Megansett Park (site of the market owned for many years by the race's namesake and his wife, Audrey).
Gartner (above center), of East Falmouth, came in first for the second year in a row, with a time of 26.06. He was followed by Sam Lagasse (right) of Windsor, Connecticut, who ran the race in 26:14, and Henry's younger brother, 15-year-old Silas Gartner (27:07).
Cotton (center above), of Woods Hole, led the female runners with a time of 33:43. She was followed by Sandee Parkinson of Falmouth (left, 34:30) and Jane Farrell of Norwich, Vermont (right, 34:43).
Held annually, the Paul White Road Race is sanctioned by USA Track & Field, the U.S. governing body for track and field, long-distance running, and race walking. For more about the race, including a list of sponsors and a downloadable list of all age category winners, click here.
